Facebook now allows Liking comments — but where's 'Dislike'?

Facebook has just allowed its users to "Like" the comments of other users, paving the way for a more forum-like interface even as users continue to clamor for a "Dislike" function.

Since launching ability to comment on News Feeds in 2008 and enabling the "Like" function the succeeding year, Facebook has finally decided to combine the two features.

On its corporate blog, Facebook announced in the early morning of June 17 the ability to "like" the comments of other users.

'Like peanut butter and jelly

"Like peanut butter and jelly, we realized these two features would go better together," said Facebook developer Tom Whitnah.

"Whether it's a witty remark, a great point in a discussion or a helpful answer to someone's question, clicking the 'Like' button within comments now makes it simple to show your appreciation," he added.

The new feature will be rolled out gradually, according to Facebook, so some users might not be able to find the function on their pages just yet.

Response from online Pinoys

In response to a shoutout on the GMANews.TV Fanpage, Filipino Facebook users welcomed the new "Like a comment" feature.

"Okay naman, para malaman din nung nag-comment na may mga agree sa comment niya. Hindi na rin pampahaba pa ng thread, di mo na need mag-comment pa. I-like mo na lang yung comment na agree ka or kung ganun din nmn yung sasabihin mo
(It's okay, so that the commenter knows that people agree with her. There's no more need to lengthen the thread, no need to comment further. You can just like a comment if you agree with it or if you share a similar opinion)," explained Cherry Yusingco.

Users also commented on ways to improve the service:

"I hope there's a thumbs down also!," said Jay Clemente.

"Sana makapost ka din ng comment sa comment para mas easy to see na nag-agree ka sa comment nya (It would be nice to comment on other comments, so it's easy to see how you agree with that person)," suggested Ped Xing.

"Gawin na parang forums (Make it more forum-like)," added Rey E. Corneja.

Clamor for 'Dislike' feature

Ever since first introducing the "Like" function, Facebook has received numerous requests for a "Dislike" function. However, the social networking giant has yet to make an official statement on the matter.
